Hello hello friends! Yes, I have been MIA a bit in the blog world. Exams ended this past Friday and I decided to take some time to myself these past few days and “unplug” from the social media world. It is amazing how great life feels when you are not constantly checking Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook to try and keep up with all that is going on in the world. I spent the past few days just connecting with family, friends, and nature- simply enjoying the world and its worth without experiencing it through technology. Since summer has started I have been losing track of what day it has been, Thursday already?! Did I mention how nice the weather has been too after the terrible winter we had?? A lot of thoughts are going through my head now that school is over so I have decided to participate in Thinking Out Loud with Amanda over at Running With Spoons. Thank you Amanda for letting me join the party today! Here are some random thoughts I have been having lately…..
.) Going unplugged was the perfect break from the world once exams were over. My boyfriend is going to Cuba for a month next week so we spent the past few days around the city. He took me to a few places I have never been before. We stopped by the waterfront to tour the battle ships and submarine, got smoothies at a new local spot, and went to Canada near Niagara Falls to hike and have lunch by the water.
.) Growing up I was always the girl that was up for a “safe” adventure, but if she followed the kids who liked a little danger, she would always end up bumped and bruised. Let’s just say my experience at the water yesterday was anything but safe, and I am one lucky duck to be alive and walking (and I thank God for my strong swimming skills). I’m not going to get into it, but here are some pictures from the highlights of yesterday’s hike.
.) I do not know what it is with me, but I am on such a mexican crave it’s ridiculous!! Chips and salsa, fajitas, burritos, I could go for it all. The other night my boyfriend and I decided to do some experimenting in the kitchen and make our own version of Morganne’s Sweet Potato Nachos. Thanks for the recipe! Last night we found our way to a local spot to satisfy our craving once again. Man oh man, can I not get enough 🙂
.) Why does exercise that is good for us have to degrade our bodies? I am talking about running here and what it does to the joints. I love to run and the more I train for this half marathon coming up next week, l the more my body hurts especially my knees. I do what I can by listening to my body and determining my distance based on how I feel. I know our bodies need rest, but the perfectionist in me just gets soo frustrated when I can run 11 miles one day and the next day I struggle with 5.
.) Since my knees have been bothering me I took a break Monday and went with my mom to power yoga. Something stuck with me that class that I could not stop thinking about on Tuesday. The instructor told the class that it is important to not compare yourself to you or anyone else. I cannot compare my performance today to what I did yesterday because every day, situation, and person is different. You’re not a failure because you cannot do the 11 miles you did yesterday, or in this case the yoga pose or balance you did last class. She said if you do child’s pose the whole class, you are still doing yoga! That made me happy and I can apply that to everything else I do- from running, to class performance, to energy level, you name it! Everyone, each day is overcoming a new challenge in their life.
.) Finally, I met Nina Davuluri, Miss America today! It’s weird meeting someone who you know so much about and they don’t even know you….can anyone else relate? I feel like a creep. There will be a blog post on this admirable woman tomorrow. Please come back and check it out because it will surely make your Friday brighter 🙂
